Justification
Malawi’s Technical, Entrepreneurial, Vocational Education and Training (TEVET) assessment and certification system ensures competency-based, demand-driven training and standardized certification across technical colleges and community skills centres. It harmonizes curricula, assessments, and qualifications. This system comprise registration by both students and training institutions, students enrolment in accredited training institutions, completion of modular coursework, completion of standardized assessments and awarding of TEVET certificates to successful candidates. Currently, this system is paper-based and fragmented which makes it hard to securely store and retrieve student data.
The digitalisation of the assessment and certification System will allow candidates across the nation to have an easy accessibility to the information as regards to the various trainings they will be undergoing. This system will ease the process of paying of various fees (e.g. examination fees, registration fees etc) as the students will be able to transact within their vicinity using phones.
Furthermore, data will be captured accurately and access to documents and assessment information by service users such as TEVET candidates, college management, stakeholders and regulators will be improved. This will assist the officers in charge to plan better all activities involved in the assessment and certification processes.
In addition, the cost of developing , administering and processing examinations shall be reduced by the use of question banks which will not require the involvement of so many subject experts.
Expected outcomes
Efficiency in administering and processing TEVET assessment and certification
